A Summer Necessity: Straight Drop Awnings

Check out this fantastic piece from our member Macarthur Home Improvements about the virtues of Straight Drop Awnings which are a must for those wanting to enjoy the rest of the summer.

It’s coming up to summer and by-geez aren’t we excited to get the BBQ roaring after a year like this one! If you’re keen to get the family and friends over to enjoy summer in style in South Sydney, we recommend a straight drop awning to upgrade your outdoor area or unit’s balcony.

And here’s why…

They look great!

Straight Drop Awnings are just that. They are Outdoor Blinds that hang “straight” down from the top assembly to the bottom fixings. The Straight Drop Awning is generally installed to fit and operate between 2 “poles”, as they are anchored to an optional frame box (aka Over-Roll Hood) at the top of the Awning and then anchors can be set down at the ground to ensure that they don’t get blown around in the breeze.

The design and installation of the Awnings create a sleek look and act like a temporary “wall” when in use, i.e. acting as a barrier between the weather elements and your protected space. They provide you with privacy when you need it!

Each Awning can be made from as little as 500mm wide and span up to 5600mm wide. If you have an area that is wider than that, it will require more than one Awning to cover the area. There is a limitation on width to ensure maximum protection and ease of operation, otherwise, the weight will be overwhelming for the size and it won’t function as it should.

Say hello to the newest product on the market, Veri Shades!

The Clever Curtain, Veri Shades are an innovative new product that combines the flexibility of vertical blinds with the elegance of a sheer curtain.

Veri Shades are a compact product, made from folds of fabric that include sheer and room darkening panels attached to a single track. So with the twist of a wand, you can control the amount of the light and shade that enters of your room. This gives you the best of both worlds – day and night, with a single product.

You may have noticed them on The Block recently. They featured in Mitch and Mark’s Living and Dining room reveal. The white Veri Shades were installed on a sliding door which leads to their outdoor terrace. A great option as Veri Shades are perfectly suited for sliding doors and large areas of glass.

Security Door vs Safety Doors

What is the difference between a security door and a safety door? And if you’re in South Sydney, why do you need to know? Find out from our expert and Fashionline member Macarthur Home Improvements.

Some key differences are the style, design and colour to suit your home but both security doors and safety doors provide key benefits and limitations that you need to be aware of to make an informed decision.

Safety Door

safety door or also commonly known as a screen door, provides you with an aluminium frame, aluminium grill design and colour for your home. Although the appearance is nice, the door only adds as a deterrent to potential unwanted visitors.

Aluminium is sturdy but not unbreakable and if accompanied by standard fly-mesh it can easily be torn or broken.

Security Door

security door provides you with added strength, ideal for entrances of your home to protect against unwanted visitors. With a reinforced aluminium frame, the door is accompanied by a stainless steel woven mesh and a triple-lock to ensure unwanted visitors cannot enter when locked.

The stainless steel woven mesh has been developed and tested by Macarthur Home Improvements, security door experts in South Sydney, as one solid piece. The mesh is so strong, it does not require an added aluminium design. The door offers a clean-cut look to your home.
